There may be times when your surgeon will be using only a local anesthetic for your surgery. This is usually done when the surgery is limited and close to the surface of the skin. A small needle is used to inject local anesthetic into the tissues to be removed and no intravenous medications are required. Often this type of surgery is done in the doctor's office.
